More Sheen Goodness

Head right HERE to have some fun getting in the mind of the one and only living legend, Chucky Shine.

His brain is made of gold. GOLD, I tell you.

Flight Distance - Bad Information (FREE D/L)

Flight Distance are a 3 piece Canadian Hip Hop crew. They were over here quite recently with a bunch of ofther Canadian and American cats on tour, with Bender also battling Arkaic in a surprise match up at the last Don't Flop event.

Heres the blurb yo :

FD are an Ottawa-based Hip-Hop group consisting of rap duo Bender & Patience, backed by DJ CalKuta. Whether it’s their ultra high-octane, riot of a live show or their cold and calculated recorded material, FD continue to stand out above any act on the scene. The group formed in 2004, and independently released their first EP “The Warning Shot” and the LP, “Run For Your Lives!” in 2005. They have since shared the stage with the likes of GZA, Masta Ace, Brother Ali, J-Live, Shad, Roc Raida (R.I.P.), Jedi Mind Tricks, and the Father of Hip-Hop, Kool Herc… just to name a few. The sample-driven beats of Bender and CalKuta have led to production credits for numerous MCs including Vast Aire of Cannibal Ox. FD have collaborated with Brooklyn Academy’s Pumpkinhead, among others. Flight has played countless shows across eastern Canada, leaving a trail of broken hearts and whiskey bottles in their wake. Recently, they’ve teamed up with producer Crack Moses and are about to tour Europe with OG Hindu Kush from Montreal. Also, Bender is the champ in the King of the Dot rap battle league. Duck and cover. The new album comes out in 2011.

Good peoples. Download their 4 track LP sampler EP right ----> HERE <----

As mentioned above, the boy Bender is a bad boy battle rapper to boot, having just taken the title in the Canadian KOTD Battle league. I told him to tuck the chain on Cold Harbour lane but he wasn't having any of it. The man is technical as fuck and brutal with it. Peep -

Bender, Loe Pesci (OG Hindu Kush) & Me In Brixton (We on some Ralphie shit)

I'd probably usually be a bit more charismatic with it, but I'm hungover, so thats what you're getting. Fuck do you expect for free? Haha

I Saw This Movie Tonight

It was FUCKING DOPE.

Go and watch it, see what you think. I really, really enjoyed it.

Charlie Sheen = HERO

Charlie Sheen is an absolute, bonafide, 100% LEGEND. That is an undeniable fact. The man is basically Robert De Niro but more fun. He's starred in some of the most hard hitting, thought provoking and dramatic movies ever made (putting in hardcore performances) as well as starring in some of the most ridiculous comedy flicks out there AND covering all the ground in between. You can take this as a salute to the man from me, not only for his outrageously under-appreciated acting skills and the fact he's starred in some of my favourite flicks EVER but also because of his bad boy, party animal lifestyle that he continues to pursue to this day despite the fact that he's well into his 40's.

Young Guns. Cracking.

Cameo in Ferris Bueller's Day Off. Legendary.

Of course, the God Body Sheen has been hitting the headlines recently for all of the 'wrong' reasons, namely his massive alcohol and drug abuse issues and his continuing rock star behaviour, i.e. trashing hotel rooms, firing guns and having three ways with porn stars (he tapped Heather Hunter back in the day - WOW). He obviously has issues and its good to see when anyone with problems recognises the fact and takes steps to get themselves back on track, but god damn it if Charlie Sheen ain't living the American Dream. Plus, regardless of all this, his net worth is apparently around the $85 million mark and probably still rising. WOW.

Platoon. Bad (Good).

Hotshots 1 & 2. Leslie Nielson's (RIP) adopted son. Massive.

And you know you've made it big time when someone out there makes an action figure of you. It's always been my dream that some company out there will make the BIG DAVE action figure some day and I'm going to cling to that hope until the day I'm ghost. I wonder if he even knows this exists.

Now, despite the tragic nature of his various problems, Sheen's popularity has, in some sort of sick way, been exponentially growing since he's been back in the papers for smashing porn chicks, sniffing rails and blazing heaters. I must admit that I have a new found respect for the man, despite all of the obvious contradictions in play. One result of his re-branding and subsequent surge in popularity has been the 'Live The Sheen Dream' website, which I urge you to visit. Click on Charlie's face and you will be presented with an endless tirade of his priceless quotations from recent times, including the claim that he has 'tiger blood pumping through his veins' and that he was born 'with the DNA of an adonis'. You couldnt make this shit up.

For example - "Good luck on your travels. You're going to need it. Badly."

Oh, and peace to my man The Ruby Kid who had this to say on Twitter earlier -

"I want @Enlish to become UK hip hop's @charliesheen. Whaddaya say, Big Dave? Up for it?"

What can I say? The man knows quality work when he sees it. From now on I will be officially known as Enlish AKA Big Dave LO, 'The Charlie Sheen Of The UK Scene'. Its a done deal. In case you hadn't noticed, I'm no slouch on the party scene (minus the porn stars, of course). Plus I'm still in my 20's, so If Big Chuck is 46 and still getting it in, I still got time to play the game.

On a lighter note, here's some of my favourite Sheen flicks that if you haven't seen, you must see.

Ferris Bueller's Day Off, Platoon, Wall Street, Young Guns, Men At Work, Navy Seals, The Rookie, Hot Shots, Hot Shots Part Deux and National Lampoon's Loaded Weapon 1 to name but a very, very small selection. Platoon is so gully.

Charlie Sheen, I salute you. Get well soon, but not too well. Holla at me, I need you to host the mixtape patna.

The Best Thing To Happen To Battle Rap EVER.....

WOAH!!!!!!

OK!!!!

DAMN!!!!!

Dope Cover Art #5

Raekwon, Ghostface & Method Man - Wu Massacre

Unfortunately, I found this LP to be slightly disappointing. It sounds like a B-Sides and Bootlegs kind of affair, a bunch of offcut tracks chucked together. However, it clocks in at a punchy 12 joints long, which is a refreshing change from a 20+ track LP. To be fair, it is a good listen, it just seems to me that there isn't a particular stand out track on there, but opinions are like arseholes innit.

Still, the cover art is fucking amazing, and by purchasing the vinyl LP you also got the three separate illustrations chucked in for good measure, all soooooper dope. Peep.

Regardless of what I said, the LP is still solid, this probably being my favourite joint. Ghost goes in at the start.

The Art Of Tom Hines (And The Rest)

Hines & I, Brighton Hip Hop Festival 2000 & ?

Aside from being a bully boy rapper, producer, youth worker and expert eggy-bread maker, Tom Hines can be credited with 2 things (well, a lot more than 2, but for the purposes of this blog, its 2. OK?). 1) He's a good friend who more or less taught me how to rap from scratch in my teens and 2) he is an incredibly talented artist and illustrator. Observe. This is from what.... 11 years ago? And yes, I have a signed copy. This is going to be worth dough one day, bitches.

Having entered the high octane, major earning world of UK Hip Hop many moons ago by illustrating the picture seen on Tommy Evan's classic '4 Horsemen' 12" (featuring Devise, Yungun and Ricochet), he recently made a return to the now barren market to do a bang up job on smashing the artwork for Ramson Badbonez latest release on King Kong Holding Company. The man has always been scribbling though, from early fliers for nights in his native York to more recently completing his 52nd flier for Brighton and the UK's premiere and longest running open mic Hip Hop jam, Slipjam B (12 years and still going). He also did the art on my now classic and thankfully unavailable demo CD, recorded when I was a teenage castrato.

Of course it was going to have me on it. Fuck is wrong with that?

Inking of the '4 Horsemen' cover. If you recall, the original 12" had an orange and black sticker. This is another one of a kind, signed of course. My art game is impeccable son.

And here follows a selection of the man's work. All relevant contact links are at the bottom. Hines is available for illustration work, beats, rhymes and gourmet eggy bread making. Holla at him and see if the price is right.

And here are a couple of fliers he knocked up for me when I used to run a night back in my hometown of Falmouth (Cornwall) called 'El Segundo' (and yes, a number of wallets were misplaced there). Don't fuck with me on the decks son, Neil B and I used to be like Westwood up in that bitch. And don't even get me started on L2. Shhhheeeeeeesssssshhhhh.

Like Lost?

And here's a cheeky little battle that he and I did last summer in the Don't Flop doubles tournament. Some say the outcome was debatable, but it is what it is. We were both a lil rusty and out of practice but you get the idea.
